Prideaux Building, Lord Wandsworth College – new multi-use building

This prestigious educational project for Amiri was to construct the new Prideaux Building for Lord Wandsworth College, a building most definitely to be proud of. With 11 new classrooms, 2 dance studios to double as a function room, offices, a careers library and special needs facilities, it provides a fitting new centre piece to the school. The project also included a separate new Porters Lodge. Designed as a sustainable development there are an array of energy saving features including a large solar panel facility that was already providing sufficient power by the end of 2011 for surplus to be sold to the national grid. Sun pipes are used to provide greater natural light and wind catcher units for natural ventilation. 29 new parking spaces were also created. It was necessary to keep disruptions to a minimum and understand the concerns and impact of the build on fee paying parents. Despite severe delays caused by the coldest December for 100 years, careful management and use of resources brought the project back on track. Amiri successfully achieved the handover of the building on the original completion date, a crucial piece of timing to coincide with the start of the new school year. The building was officially opened by Sir Humphrey Prideaux OBE DL on 15th September 2011

The Courtyard, Vinnetrow, Chichester – new business units

Vinnetrow Business Park is a well-established park on the outskirts of Chichester that houses a number of diverse businesses including a call centre, accountants, electronics company, health care business and professional services. The Courtyard was a speculative build of one U-shaped building offering 5 office units. It was designed to achieve an A level grade of Environmental Performance Certificate whilst being commercially viable and negotiation using Amiri’s Cost Plan Manager system ensured that this happened. Amiri continued to work hard with the design team and supply chain to ensure that construction on site was of the right quality to ensure that the end product achieved this and we were delighted when this was confirmed. Vinnetrow has excellent sustainability credentials as well as providing a successful business environment. Internally the space within the buildings is versatile and capable of being subdivided into smaller suites. The Courtyard has subsequently been taken over by the Chichester Free School whilst it establishes itself and searches for a new site on which to purpose-build a new campus.
