Project Avatar was the name given to a Kingsbridge Estates development to provide a 97,600 sqft cold store and distribution centre on their Chichester Food Park campus in West Sussex. Project Avatar is our fifth with the Kingsbridge Estates team and we were delighted to win this competitively tendered design and build project.

The new building provides the occupier, Natures Way Foods with the ability to receive freshly picked salad plants, chill, pack and distribute them to their clients faster, guaranteeing fresher produce for the retail customer. The two storey office section at the front provides management and administration space as well as an industrial kitchen serving a 100 seat canteen for employees and all the changing and washing and cleaning facilities to ensure that the processing environment and employees remain spotlessly clean.

The building has been renamed Natures Way Food Merston. This is in memory of the wartime airfield of RAF Merston on which the building now stands. The airfield saw test flights of the famous Supermarine Spitfire in the late 1930s and then served as an operational base for three Spitfire squadrons during World War Two.
