It is with much sadness and a very heavy heart that we must inform you of the sudden death of Vernon Baker over the weekend. Vernon, the original Amiri Site Manager, was truly one of a kind and known to many within the business for much longer than just the 10 years of Amiri Construction. Vernon came late to the construction industry following service in the Army. This didn’t stop him quickly establishing himself as very knowledgeable and personable Site Manager who offered both a warm welcome to all in his site office and was very comfortable on the site dealing with the tradesmen, absorbing every detail and ensuring everyone could make progress. He was the epitome of the Site Manager that you could talk to, have a good laugh with and always feel comfortable that the decisions that he made were in the best interests of the project because, most importantly, he knew what he was doing. Vernon was equally committed to the rest of his life, he was a keen skier, squash player and cherished his family. He was a constant source of amusement and laughter for all and his loss will be keenly felt by his long-term partner Vicky and his family. We hope that they are comforted by the knowledge that his loss will be keenly felt by so many of those within the construction industry that had the good fortune to know him.
We would like to thank the fantastic people within the construction industry or that have worked with Amiri in some other capacity for the messages that we have received in the last week. These have been saved and will be passed to the family so that they are able to see the esteem in which Vernon was held as well as the laughter and smiles he provided!
The funeral will be on 23rd June 2015 at 2.30pm at Salisbury Crematorium, SP1 3JB.
The family have asked that donations be made rather than providing flowers. These donations will go to charities including that administered by Vernon’s former regiment, the Royal Artillery.
Donations can be made on the day or through
